Community Involvement

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

Toogoolawah SHS is actively involved in a large range of community based Activities. These include Anzac Day Ceremony and local parade, supporting residents at Alkira the local Aged Care Centre through visitation, Instrumental Band presentations and Christmas Carole singing. Our students actively work at both Esk & Toogoolawah Shows by interactive computer demonstrations as well as volunteer workers at stalls and waiting on tables at the Show Ball.

Students engaged in Certificate Level Studies in Hospitality support a wide range of catering activities.

Our students support local cultural initiatives through participation at Esk's Annual Multicultural Celebrations as well as Mothers Day Concert performances at the Historic Homestead of Caboonbah.

Work Experience and Structure Work Placement assist local businesses as well as providing invaluable experiences to student through these formal activities.

Our community supports our school in a wide range of programs.  The following programs are indicative and not an exhaustive list of this wide support.

L.A.P. (Learning Assistance Program) - Community volunteers attend school and work with students with special needs.

Barry's Boys - A Community Mentor Program that supports boys in Years 9 - 12 who need additional support.

Agriculture: Stock on Loan - Livestock is shared with the school to support learning programs.  The school has partnerships with Dunlop's and Colinton Stations for Santa Gertrudis cattle and Tony and Ann Coates for Boer goats.

Certificate II in Road Transport - Industry Placements and Industry Experience are provided for Year 11 & 12 students in this course.  Local transport companies Seymour's and Hogg Transport along with those in the wider community - Nolan's, Cement Australia, Simon's, Lindsay's and Toll North are also strong supporters of the Program and all support us with their expertise and industry access.

Toogoolawah Chamber of Commerce - provides support through student access to businesses in the community and mentors for Y.A.A.

Esk Shire Council - supports our school community through industry placements and curriculum support in a range of learning areas.

Upper Brisbane Valley Landcare Group - work with students in curriculum and practical areas.

Brisbane Valley Art Association and Esk Community Choir - support our students in a range of performances and arts activities.

Community support comes from many diverse areas and there are many long standing partnerships that support student's learning and personal development.
